Based on the growth of cloud computing, technology firm IBM unveiled a new data center in Auckland, New Zealand on Friday. The 56,000 square-foot data center was built for $65 million.
The cloud-based data center will provide the area with services such as hosted private cloud computing, hybrid cloud infrastructure, and virtual servers.
In a press release by the company, Managing Director of IBM New Zealand Jennifer Moxon stated, As New Zealands economy continues to grow, IBMs data centre will provide a platform for businesses to drive increased efficiencies, improved productivity and greater innovation.
The data center is built to protect against unwanted energy losses by using advanced monitoring. It will also rely on free-flow cooling (which uses outside air) and rainwater to maintain its servers.
The facilitys raised floor provides for 720 server racks.
IBM currently has over 400 data centers worldwide. For more information on the new data center, visit: http://www-03.ibm.com/press/nz/en/pressrelease/34600.wss
