Military contractor Lockheed Martin announced over the weekend that they had thwarted a massive cyber-attack on May 21.

It was reported that the hackers attempted to use SecurID tokens to compromise the company’s network. It also follows a March breach of RSA, the maker of SecurID, suggesting that the same hackers could be behind the new incident.

In a press release from Saturday, the company stated that the breach was detected “almost immediately” and that their system remained secure after hackers failed to compromise any information.

Upon detecting the attempted intrusion, Lockheed took extensive measures to secure the network. It was reported that these included temporarily shutting down the network, adding more security to login procedures, resetting passwords, and upgrading the actual remote access SecurID tokens.

The failed attack was considered serious enough that even U.S. President Barack Obama was briefed on the occurrence, although the attack was described as “fairly minimal” by White House spokesman Jay Carney.

Meanwhile, the U.S. government is offering the company additional help with further security precautions.

Headquarterd in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is the United State’s largest military contractor and has over 100,000 employees.
